Earlier this year, SSE sponsored the third Evolution, Ecology, and Environment National Symposium, held October 1-5, 2018 in Tunja, Colombia through the SSE Evolution International Events Awards [1]. This symposium was presented by the Evolutionary and Epistemological Biology Investigation group (BIEVEP, by its Spanish acronym) and the BIEVEP Foundation. “In this opportunity, the event addressed from different areas and perspectives the link between evolution, complexity and environmental reality, with the objective of reflecting about the science sense and evolutionary thinking in Latin America, as well as its contemporary implications. During the Symposium there was the first workshop about biological data analysis, statistics and comparative analysis in R, led by two of our international guests. On the other hand, during the three days of the symposium we had a total of 12 Master lectures, 8 short talks, and 18 posters including diversity of research areas.

“The participants of the symposium came from different regions of Colombia and from different countries, from different academic institutions, from undergraduate and postgraduate students, professors and independent researchers to high school students.

“We are really grateful for the support that SSE has given us, allowing us to establish links between the BIEVEP and some researchers and institutes from USA, Argentina, France and Colombia, and local people interested in scientific issues. This academic exchange contributes to generating links and strengthening research capacity nationally and regionally. The support of the SSE was vital to carry out this meeting.”
